The Merriam Webster dictionary defines gastronomy as the art or science of good food and to make good art, you need passion so you can extrapolate from that. To make good food you need passion so my personal view is that if you put in the time to learn the basics and are passionate enough with your endeavours you can make truly good food.

The word gastronomy comes from the ancient word gaster which means stomach and no-mos which means laws which govern so the literal translations would be laws that govern the stomach. This can be stretched out to cover all food and ways of eating food and that they are gastronomy.
